Here’s a fun fact that has nothing to do with how this drink tastes: apple seeds contain trace amounts of a cyanide-producing compound, which is why you’re taught not to chew them as a kid. This cocktail borrows none of that danger — just the name — delivering fruity sweetness, bright acidity, and a cool hit of mint in near-perfect balance. Apple liqueur’s gentle sweetness forms the base, grapefruit’s tartness sharpens it, and mint liqueur sunk at the bottom adds a refreshing touch that reveals itself deeper into the glass.
The first sip brings apple’s sweetness forward, followed by grapefruit’s crisp acidity, before mint’s cool freshness rises through the nose at the finish — deliberate, since mint liqueur’s density keeps it settled at the bottom until the last sips.
With sweetness and tartness layered under cooling freshness, it’s ideal for summer or whenever you need to feel refreshed. I’d call it approachable for beginners, yet layered enough to reward experienced drinkers.
Points, Twists & Food Pairings

- Best Pairings・・・Try it with fruit tarts, mixed nuts, or a light cheese plate — apple’s sweetness pairs beautifully with buttery, nutty flavors.
- Mixing Tip・・・Use freshly squeezed grapefruit juice rather than bottled — the natural bitterness balances the apple liqueur’s sweetness more cleanly.
- Easy Twist・・・Swap green mint liqueur for a fresh mint sprig muddled at the bottom, or add a splash of soda for a lighter, fizzier finish.
- Drinking Note・・・The fruity sweetness makes this easy to drink quickly — pace yourself, and give the mint layer a light stir before your first sip.
